Bird Post & Wire

Bird post & wire systems is a low-profile but effective way to stop pigeons or gulls from perching on ledges and other similar locations; which prevents damage to building ledges and facades due to their corrosive droppings. Pigeon and gull systems are different and incompatible, so the installer must identify the dominant pest bird before application.

Bird wire is not a practical solution to roosting or nesting birds, so the user must understand the system’s limitation. Bird wire is a plastic-coated UV resistant stainless steel wire installed between 2 upright posts, held under tension with spring and fixed in place with crimps. The installed system is flexible and allows for movement under duress but provides a discomforting experience that pigeons and gulls do not like and this moves them on. Bird wire does not stop birds from landing; however, they do not or for minimal moments in the vast majority of times.

Bird wire should be spaced at 1.5m intervals for pigeons and 3m for gulls. We recommend multi-lengths rows with a minimum of 2 rows however more rows are better. Rows should be spaced at 50-60mm for pigeons and 80-100mm for gulls.

This system is installed in a wide range of scenarios and most popular within town buildings where bird proofing is required to be discrete. Our systems have been installed on Savoy Hotel, Imperial College and St’Thomas Hospital, to name a few.

As a summary, the following key components are required:

  • 0.7mm wire for pigeons & 0.96mm wire for gulls
  • Standard springs for pigeons & micro springs for gulls
  • Nickel-plated copper crimps for 0.7mm wire & 1mm copper ferrules for 0.96mm wire
  • Posts and or eye split pins depending on the system installed
