Solar Panel Protection

Solar panels are now a major issue within the bird control industry as installations, typically raised from the roof, allow a perfect area for pest birds to roost and nest; safely away from weather and other predators.

At Birdgo, we now have several installers options to easily prevent specific birds from gaining access to solar panels’ underside. Our options include:

Bird Spikes – A choice of either a plastic or stainless steel spike to prevent pigeons and other similar sized birds. These spikes are attached to the solar panel’s side flange, which makes this a very easy to apply prevention method without voiding any manufacturers warranty.

Weldmesh – This is a physical barrier that prevents many birds, including smaller species such as sparrows and starlings. Weldmesh systems are more complicated and time-consuming but will result in a permanent barrier with longterm durability. Options are available for the installers to use clips as a fixing method.

Before undertaking any bird, prevention works, the installer must understand bird prevention regulations as all UK birds are protected. We recommend that any prevention works are undertaken outside of the breeding season when nests have been abandoned; of course, we recommend installing a solar panel guard when possible before birds cause an issue.

Any old nesting materials under the solar panel should be removed before installing prevention works; this will encourage birds to look for alternative sites quicker and less likely that they will loiter after an installation.
