Solar Mesh

The solar mesh is a heavy-duty and physical barrier that prevents a wide range of bird activity under solar panels, including roosting and nesting. The mesh size will usually prevent smaller birds than our solar spike range and can be effective for starlings and sparrows.

Weldmesh is technically more difficult and time-consuming than other options, and subject to how the system is installed can be more expensive. This system, however, is permanent and failure is extremely unlikely.

Systems can be installed around the side of the entire solar panel cluster and can be fixed with ease using solar mesh clips, which are highly recommended as a fast fitting option, or by using perforated pin bases and washes, however, this requires adhesive and time to set, so some installers may find this option not viable. Alternatively, the solar mesh can be installed with hex screws and washers directly into the side skirt. Still, users should be careful not to damage the solar panel or void any manufacturers warranty.

It is recommended that fittings are spaced at every 0.45m intervals, which normally results in 2 clips on the short edge and 3 clips on the longer edge.

Both types of weldmesh can either be trimmed down with some suitable tin snips or wire rope cutters. Alternatively, excess wire mesh can be bent inwards to create a dual-layer of protection.

Cable ties should be used on all corners and joints to strengthen the system and prevent holes from being created, that might be abused by pest birds.
